From stealing the show in Christmas parades to earning titles in draft tests, carting is a rewarding activity that taps into your dog’s natural working instincts. Join the CVBMDC for a hands-on workshop designed to give you the skills, resources, and confidence to get started in carting.
🐕‍🦺 Three experienced presenters will cover the following:
· Basic obedience skills every carting dog needs.
· Key training techniques for carting success.
· Cart maneuvering and handling tips.
· Where to purchase or how to build your own cart.
· Opportunities for carting, including draft tests, parades, and seasonal events like pulling Christmas trees to cars.
· Detailed information on what to expect at a draft test.
· How to get involved in local carting practices.
· Upcoming fall draft test with the Piedmont BMD Club.
· The opportunity to hitch your dog to a cart.
📋 Additional event details:
· Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
· Bring high-value, tasty treats that smell delicious (steak, chicken, cheese, etc.)
· All dogs must be on a 4-6 foot leash (no expandable leashes) and under control of their handler.
· Dogs need to be crated when not working. A few crates are available, but please bring your own (soft or hard) if you have one.
· Large outdoor area for walking and relieving your dogs.
· All participants must sign a release.
