Welcome to the 2025 CU Tango Music Festival!Guest musicians Rodrigo Avalos (bandoneon), Teagan Faran (violin), Heyni Solera (bandoneon) and Maxfield Wollam-Fisher (cello) return to join forces with our local tango orchestra Bandoneon Massacre in a weekend full of tango music and dance. In addition, Daniela Roig and Hernan Prieto light up the dance floor with dance workshops, performances, and private lessons, and DJ Mariano Bejarano makes his Champaign-Urbana debut at the festival milonga.

CU Tango Music Festival and Boneyard Arts Festival at Krannert Uncorked

CU Tango Music and 40North collaborate to kick off both the CU Tango Music Festival and the Boneyard Arts Festival. This special edition of Krannert Uncorked includes performances by Bandoneon Massacre as well as our festival guest artists, featuring their individual solo and duo projects.

The festival concert features contemporary tango music alongside gems of the Golden Age of tango. Performing music by some of the most prolific names in tango today, including Julián Peralta, Ramiro Boero, and Pablo Jaurena alongside up-and-coming composers and arrangers Rodrigo Avalos, Teagan Faran, Petaló Selser, and Katharina Driessler, our festival guest artist musicians explore the depth and breadth of tango music expression.

Tango Music Workshop for Strings and Bass

Are you a string player curious about tango music? Explore the origins of the music of Astor Piazzolla. This free workshop, led by tango musicians Maxfield Wollam-Fisher and Teagan Faran is an introduction to how to make a tango sound like tango. Open to all levels.

The festival milonga brings together our guests artists, local tango band Bandoneon Massacre, and Midwest guest musicians for a magical night celebrating the beauty and drama of tango music and dance. The milonga features music from DJ Mariano Bejarano and our 20+-piece festival orquesta as well as a special live-music dance performance from Daniela Roig and Hernan Prieto. You will not want to miss this one-of-a-kind evening in the enchanting ballroom at Urbana Dance Company.
