About this Event

It is more important than ever to stay informed after many changes to employee payroll taxes in 2025. Learn more directly from an Employment Development Department (EDD) Payroll Tax Specialist.


Led by tax experts Brian Mauldin, from the Employment Development Department (EDD), is a Payroll Tax Specialists with the Employment Development Department (EDD), Tax Branch, Field Audit and Compliance Division.

The Department is responsible for California Programs involving unemployment insurance, disability insurance, payroll tax collection and job training/workforce services. The Tax Branch administers the collection, accounting, and auditing functions of the state's payroll tax program.

Key topics include:

• Overview of state payroll taxes: Unemployment Insurance (UI), State Disability Insurance (SDI)

• Employer responsibilities and reporting requirements

• How to register as an employer with the EDD

• How to file and pay taxes using e-Services for Business

• Tips on preventing costly penalties and audits

• Common mistakes and how to avoid them
