Join us for the 2025 Cambria County SART/STOP Conference featuring Dr. Veronique Valliere!

This FREE full-day training will be held at the John P. Murtha Center on the Pitt-Johnstown campus. Dr. Valliere brings more than 30 years of experience working with violent offenders and their victims - see her bio below!


“Please just hit me! Understanding the terror of psychological abuse”

Psychological abuse is the most common form of violence, but it is under-identified and underestimated in its potential to create damage. Dr. Valliere will describe the types of psychological and emotional abuse used by abusers of all types, as well as explain the impact on the victims. Case examples with be offered, as well as strategies for identifying this type of abuse in investigations and prosecution.


“The Deadly Dance: Domestic Violence Offenders and Their Victims”

Domestic violence is a common and potentially lethal crime that is private and intimate. This training discusses the techniques of the intimate violence offender, including oppression and coercion that are little understood by others. Risk assessment and lethality factors are discussed as well. This training is important for all who treat victims or offenders or those who supervise and investigate domestic violence.

Dr. Valliere is a licensed psychologist and has her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology of Rutgers University. She has over 30 years’ experience in the field and has worked in individual and group treatment with violent offenders and their victims, including domestic violence offenders, sexual offenders, violent offenders, and substance abusers. She is currently the owner and director of two outpatient treatment centers – Valliere & Counseling Associates, an outpatient treatment center for mental health, domestic violence, and victim issues and Forensic Treatment Services, an outpatient violent offender treatment program. Her program treats Federal, State, and County Offenders. She also serves on the Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board and has been reappointed since 1997. She has published on the treatment of sexual offenders and presented on the same at international, national, and local sexual offender conferences. She has trained for the FBI, DOJ, DOD, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ontario Police, Alberta Crown Prosecutor’s Office, Amber Alert, Army JAG Office, Pennsylvania State Parole, National Center for the Prosecution of Violence Against Women, and other agencies. She’s been a guest presenter at many forensic and violence related conferences. She is recognized as an expert in a number of states and testified nationally and internationally. She has testified regarding sexual assault in the military to the U.S. Congress and has consulted with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Justice. She has been interviewed for popular magazines on sexual assault and domestic violence, including New York Times, The Atlantic, Washington Post, Huffington Post, People, Self, and Good Housekeeping. She has appeared on “PBS News Hour,” “CBS This Morning,” and other programs and radio shows. She has her own TEDx talk about sexual assault. Dr. Valliere was used as an expert in the sexual assault trial of Bill Cosby. She is the author of a children’s book and Understanding Victims of Interpersonal Violence (2019), Unmasking the Sexual Offender (2023), and Successful Prosecution of Intimate Violence (2023) published by Routledge Press.
