About this Event
Spectate over 18 athletic events, explore 50+ Native Vendors, enjoy the Miss WEIO Pageant, experience the Baby/Open Regalia, and native dancing. This is a lifetime experience and celebrate Alaska native culture!
Join us from July 10 to 13, 2024, at the Big Dipper Ice Arena in Fairbanks, AK. The event runs from 10 AM to 11 PM.
Daytime events are FREE to the public from 10 AM to 4:45 PM.
Children & Elders FREE: 4 & under / 80 +
Admission is charged for evening events beginning at 6:00 PM.
The games have been passed down for generations and played to showcase the strength, endurance and agility required for survival. They teach important lessons and values, and each game has a reason behind its creation.
In the past, family and village gatherings were marked by feasts, dances, and games. Messengers were often sent to neighboring villages to extend formal invitations. Today, these games are played in rural communities during the Fourth of July and Christmas holidays.
Envision yourself in a community village shelter three hundred years ago with the temperature outside at 60 degrees below zero, celebrating a successful seal hunt. As young men demonstrate their athletic prowess, the umialiks, or whaling captains, observe keenly, selecting recruits for their crews based on speed, strength, balance, and endurance.
