EVENT DETAILS
______________________________
LOCATION: Scout Island
DATE: 6 Oct 2024 (Sun)
TIME: Prep 4-5pm (or earlier, if you need more time) and launch @ 5pm
HOW: Wear all black and witch hats or warlock attire + bring your paddle board, kayak, or canoe gear
COST: This is a free event with no registration
SAFETY EQUIPMENT: All paddlers MUST have a whistle and PFD. Please WEAR your PFD -- having a PFD on your watercraft but not on you isn't helpful when you fall in and your watercraft blows away and you should still wear it if you're a good swimmer. This safety equipment is required by Transport Canada and you can be fined up to $500 for not having it. Please also wear clothing appropriate for the weather conditions and dress for the water temperature -- you might say you won't fall in, but what if you do?

COSTUME TIPS
______________________________
- Secure your hat with a chin strap or pins, otherwise it’ll blow off your head as you paddle
- Ensure your costume doesn't interfere with your paddling or cause any tripping hazards
- Don't wear cotton or thick wool: cotton will stay wet/cold, while wool will be heavy if it gets wet; jeans are made of cotton - please don't wear them on the water

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTES
______________________________
- Youth must have an adult guardian with them on the water to participate
- Participants are responsible for bringing their own paddling and safety gear
- Paddle at your own risk: there will be no official instruction, lifeguard, or safety personnel at this event
- Participants must have paddling experience: although all paddle levels are welcome, this should not be your first time using your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe
- Consider water booties if your feet are sensitive to the cold and bring a dry change of clothes to keep in the car in case you take an unexpected dip in the water
- This event is occurring rain or shine: do your due diligence with regard to checking weather conditions and assessing whether or not you have the ability to participate
