The Roda-Thon is a pledge-based fundraiser in which participants play as much Capoeira as possible in order to raise funds. Participants will request sponsorships for their engagement throughout the Roda-Thon event. The “roda” or “wheel” is the container of Capoeira’s dynamic movement, where martial artists and athletes fill the room with lively music sung in Portuguese and interactive martial games. Two capoeiristas play within the circle, using ritual combat and acrobatic movements guided by the tempo and energy of the instruments, or “bateria”, which generates the pace and invitation of the games.Like many fundraisers of this nature, participants reach out to our extended networks of family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, local business etc. Suggested minimums are $1 per game for your selected participant, or a flat contribution of $25. However, any and all support is appreciated, whatever amount you contribute serves to support our mission and goes a long way towards achieving our goal. All contributions through this portal are tax deductible to the full extent of US tax laws.
On December 7th, we are hosting our Roda-Thon fundraiser to expand our impact towards the Hayward and Castro Valley communities and sustain our growing reach. This fundraiser will also contribute to continued accessibility for youth and adults alike to attend our capoeira and zumba classes. Our capoeira studio on Foothill Blvd and A Street is home to our growing kids program of serving over 100 youth this year in a mixed all-level/ability environment.
