2024 Toxics Use Reduction Planner Certification Course

Since 1990 companies in Massachusetts have used the toxics use reduction (TUR) planning process to identify safer, affordable and effective alternatives to their use of toxic chemicals. TUR Planners are tasked with assuring that companies identify and assess opportunities for reduction and, in Massachusetts, facilities filing under TURA must have a certified TUR Planner sign off on their plan. The TUR planning process has helped to shape the globally recognized practice of alternatives assessments.

After attending the August 14 kick-off meeting, attendees participate in a 6-week asynchronous online portion of the course, which thoroughly covers the theory and regulations associated with TUR planning. Participants review narrated presentations, complete assignments and participate in thought-provoking online discussions. In the month following successful completion of the online portion participants gather in person for four day-long classes to put the theory to practice. Participants learn directly from veteran TUR planners about best practices, and work together on a practicum based on a real manufacturing operation.
