The Sonata National Championship 2024 will be held at Medway Yacht Club on the tidal River Medway, between Saturday 10th – Wednesday 14th August 2024.The event will offer competitive One design racing for all abilities. Over 4 days of sailing.
The event will mostly comprise of Olympic style courses with multiple races each day. A longer ‘around the cans’ race will also be included allowing competitors to sail around more of the river – Being on a tidal river leads to added tactical challenges. (Racing will start on Sunday 11th and a registration and briefing will take place on Saturday 10th)
The location is a short hop away from Brightlingsea where the Nationals were previously hosted in 2022. Being situated near the M20, A2, M25 makes the location easily trailable from South-Coast clubs
The championships will offer Social events each evening including live music and quizzes. Sailors will be offered breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Club House each day as part of a meal package, allowing for more time to be spent racing and making use of the clubs well stocked bar.
The entry fee will include launch and recovery for visiting boats and either river moorings directly outside the clubhouse or space on our all-tide pontoon.
There is a Travelodge just a short trip away from the club, camping for tents and caravans will also be offered on our on-site campsite.
The Medway Sonata Fleet is competitive, being home of the 2022 National Championship winners ‘White Noise’ and 3rd Place boat ‘BD2’.
They are also no stranger to hosting Sonata events with multiple Championships events previously held at the Club.
