Back in 2019, Nic Shayko had envisioned a yearly matchup between Cleveland and Columbus. After one successful event at Kidforce Collectibles, quarantine put a damper on the project and unfortunately it never regained steam. In honor of his passing, we are bringing the event back this January, the evening before Ohio SCS finals.STARTS AT 5:30, SHARP!
Participants:
8 players for Northern Ohio and 8 players for Southern Ohio. Each team will be comprised of the top 6 overall finalists based on 2024 Ohio wpprs, and the top 2 women's finalists.
For example, as it stands now...
Northern Ohio: Stephen Prusa, Aaron Rich, Andy Lee, Galvin Morgan (TD), John Delzoppo, Jaden Rich, Valencia Kelly, Fiona Kelly
Southern Ohio: Greg Kennedy, Carlos DeLaSerda, Jesse Baker, Cody Webb, Jack Nebraska, Brian Shepherd, Holly Koskinen, Jay Denham
We left Nic's original draft of the "Land vs Bus" tournament format relatively untouched, but will yield to time constraints as needed.
THE FORMAT:
Session 1- Doubles:
Teams will play 2 vs 2 matches with the scores added up, and the team with the higher combined score wins the game. Each match will consist of a best of 3, all games chosen randomly, except that each game can only be played once in a match. Each pair will play 2 matches in this session. EDIT: Both the North and South “team captains” - the highest pro ranked player on each team - will assign their team members “blind” into the 4 pairs from each team. As an example, OPP picks himself and Mark Brown to be North 1, assigns Aaron and Valencia to North 2, Galvin and Nicole to North 3, and Andy and Steve to North 4. Both captains will assign their players to these pairs without knowledge about who is getting assigned to which pairs by the other captain.
North 1 v South 1 ; North 2 v South 2; North 3 v South 3; North 4 v South 4
The winners of each match gets 4 points for their team, a total of 16 points awarded.
Session 2 - Oddities:
One Ball Play:
Team captains will "blindly" place players in groups of 4 and each team member will play 1 ball. In this event only 1 extra ball can be played by the 4th member of the team. The Captain picks all team members for both teams. Highest score wins. (NOTE: this game will be played on a game that supports 4 ball - eg: a Stern)
Ex: North 1 v South 1; North 2 v South 2
Winning side of each game wins 3 points for their team, a total of 6 points awarded.
Split Flipper:
USING THE PAIRS OF PLAYERS FROM THE DOUBLES PORTION, a Land and a Bus team will play a randomly selected full game, played split flipper (3 ball, or 5 ball EMs). In each matchup, highest score wins.
North 1 v South 3, North 2 v South 4, North 3 v South 1, North 4 v South 2.
Winning side of each game wins 2 points for their team, a total of 8 points awarded.
Session 3- Head to Head:
Players will play one game chosen randomly against a player from the other team. Team captains will, again "blindly," choose players to be North 1-8 and South 1-8, then each odd numbered player will play EACH AND EVERY odd numbered player from the other team. Evens will play evens, similarly.
The winner of each game earns one point for their team, a total of 32 points awarded.
The total event has 62 possible points, so in order to win, a team must get over a minimum of 32 points.
