About this Event
About the Speaker:
Jan Richardson is a PhD candidate at Griffith University investigating the presence of non-European convicts and indentured labourers (‘coolies’) in Queensland prior to 1860, including ethnic minority individuals of African, Mauritian, Caribbean, Indian, Chinese and Pacific Island descent. She is also a Research Fellow at Griffith University’s Harry Gentle Resource Centre contributing to a biographical dictionary of Queensland’s early colonial residents.
About the Talk:
Jan will introduce a variety of entries in the recently launched Dictionary of Biography including soldiers, convicts, early settlers and First Nations peoples at Moreton Bay prior to separation from New South Wales, as well as demonstrate how to build searches by gender, ethnicity, location, ship of arrival, and occupation. This will become a valuable research tool.
