Honouring our fallen members is very important to all of us in the RCMP. Every year since 1935, on the second Sunday of September, we hold the RCMP National Memoria Service at Depot Division to remember those who lost their lives while serving. This year, the RCMP will add two fallen to the Honour Roll and Cenotaph: Cst. Frederick “Rick” O’Brien and Cst. Brent Harold Veefkind.
This year's service will be open to the public.
Public access to the RCMP Academy is available through the RCMP Heritage Centre entrance at 5907 Dewdney Avenue. Gates open at 8 am. Gates for public access will close by 8:45 am. All attendees are asked to be seated by 8:45.
The service starts promptly at 9 am on the Parade Square and ends at 10 am. The event is free of charge.
Details
-The RCMP Academy is an active training site and a secure facility. Access is controlled. Personal items may be searched on entry.
-Please do not bring your pets. Service dogs are welcome.
-Seating will be provided.
-Public will NOT attend the Chapel Service, Brunch and Procession. These will be reserve only to returning families, veterans and employees of the RCMP.
Accessibility tips
The RCMP National Memorial Service is outdoor. To help those with mobility concerns, here are some items to note:
-This event draws larger crowds who walk from the RCMP Heritage Centre parking lot to Depot
-We encourage guests with mobility needs to arrive early and park closest to the south end of the parking lot.
If you cannot attend in person, the RCMP National Memorial Service will be streamed on the RCMP Depot Division YouTube channel. You can watch live or any time after the event.
