About this Event
It's that time of year again when we come together to acknowledge and lift up the contributions of African-Americans at the Greater Lafayette area annual Juneteenth Celebration of Liberation.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Abraham Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation ending the enslavement of more than 3 million bondsmen in the Confederate states on January 1, 1863.
The primary mission of this celebration is to highlight the people and organizations that value diversity and ascribe to the ideals of honoring and celebrating freedom. This event would not be possible without the support of the Hanna Community Center and their efforts to improve the well-being and quality of life through multi-generational programming as they seek to celebrate traditions throughout the Greater Lafayette area while preserving the culture, heritage and history of African Americans and minority groups.
Together, Hanna Community Center and Juneteenth Celebration Greater Lafayette, hope to continue to uplift the voices of our African-American community members, acknowledge and celebrate their excellence, and forge pathways for our young people to reach their full potential.
The featured areas will be demonstrations of History, Arts, Culture and Racial/Social Justice, including Interactive art work, Live entertainment and Food.
Specifically, our 2024 program includes:
- Community Choir performance
- Themed Fashion Competition
- Free Soul Food (while supplies last)
- Healing drum circles

- … and more!!
