As a Headstone Usher, you will be responsible for watching Flag Placement volunteers and verifying that all headstones receive a flag.About this Event
Things to keep in mind
- As a Headstone Usher, you will be outside for the entirety of your shift. Please know that Flag Placement will take place rain or shine. Dress for the weather!
- We rely on our Headstone Ushers to ensure Flag Placement volunteers follow directions properly. If you’re not confident in your ability to lead and guide people as needed, you may want to consider a different volunteer position.
- Please be aware that this is a position in which you will be standing for the majority of the time.
- You will need to be comfortable with communicating with other volunteers.
Cemetery Rules
- No running in the cemetery.
- No leaning on, sitting on, or resting body or limbs on headstones or monuments.
- Do not pick up any flowers or flags (unless the flag has fallen to the ground).
- Do not touch any of the coins that were placed on top of the headstones or around the headstone.
- No advertising of any kind while on the cemetery grounds.
- Do not disrupt visitors at graves. You may ask to place the flag for them. However, if they deny the request, kindly give them a flag so that they can place it themselves.
- No littering, please ensure that you are picking up after yourselves.
