About this Event
Since its inception in 2010, the Global Korea Forum has been a leading Track 1.5 multilateral dialogue funded by the South Korean Ministry of Unification. As a collaboration with universities around the world, this forum brings together former and current policymakers, representatives from international organizations and civil society, and distinguished scholars to address critical issues affecting the Korean Peninsula. The Forum’s primary objective is to showcase diverse perspectives and facilitate constructive discussions with the international community on matters of peace, prosperity, and the reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
Under the theme “Trilateral Cooperation and the Korean Peninsula: The U.S., South Korea, and Japan Partnership,” the 2024 Washington Forum will spend the day investigating three topics with a focus on the benefits and challenges of trilateral cooperation. The first session will discuss how the Korean peninsula fits into the regional and global order, particularly following the U.S. presidential election. The second session will analyze sanctions and deterrence toward the DPRK, especially given the North’s cyber activities and recently strengthened trilateral U.S.-ROK-Japan cooperation. The last session will explore avenues for promoting North Korean citizens’ access to information and their human rights in the DPRK, as well as while working overseas, escaping, and resettling.
