The Christmas Tour of Homes is sponsored by St. Agatha’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10-5. Proceeds from the tour benefit the church’s Preservation Fund which is reserved for major repairs of their three historic structures on Circle Drive. You will enjoy historic and picturesque DeFuniak Springs!Homes for the tour are selected for a variety of reasons (unique architecture or history, outstanding Christmas decorations, interesting owners and/or furnishings, unique collections, ghosts…). Especially for the car lovers some antique or classic cars will be scattered about town.
Restoration may be just starting, in progress, or complete for some of the historic homes or business structures. Everyone seems to enjoy hearing about the fun and foibles associated with historic restoration whether buildings or vehicles.
While not all sites are on Circle Drive, they are within the historic district, so be prepared to tour by car. In addition to 8-10 homes, restored downtown businesses, three Circle Drive Churches, as well as St. Agatha’s parish house and vicarage are shown as extras. A demonstration of the church’s organ by Lona Robinson and caroling, with Soprano Soloist and Flautist Uma Jolly, will take place at 2 and 4 pm.
Attractions such as the library, museum, and winery will be open. The Festival of Trees, Main Street’s Merry Market, and Christmas Reflections will be in progress.
Award winning author, F. Diane Pickett's home on the tour this year. Bring along one of her books for her signature. Sales of "The Tea Wasn't Always Sweet," (available online at Amazon) support the DeFuniak Landmarks Foundation at the University of West Florida Historic Trust.) Sales of her first novel, "Never Isn't Long Enough" support St. Agatha's Preservation Fund.
Documentary film credits for “The Flight of Jackie Cochran” was recently added to Nancy Hasty’s resume. The home of this well-known actress, playwright, and director is also featured this year. Bring your mementos for her autograph.
With its three stories, sweeping verandas and iconic, octagonal turret, Sunbright Manor is one of the most emblematic buildings in Walton County. This completely renovated 1886 Queen Anne Victorian is on this year's tour. You'll be able to see the incredible workmanship inside and out.
See inside the Historic Hotel DeFuniak built in 1920 as a Masonic Lodge. It has been featured on several ghost hunt shows. This charming and stately structure is sure to be a treat to see. And while there, enjoy New Orleans-styled cuisine with a 1920's theme at Cafe Nola.
Of course, Christmas Reflections (9 million lights and many displays surrounding the lake) begins at 5 pm.
Nonrefundable tickets of $25 are a donation to St. Agatha's Preservation Fund. Homes will be open this date only.
