Jordyn was diagnosed with Chiari at the age of 8 and has had two brain surgeries ages 8 and 9. She is going for her third brain surgery on February 20th at the age of 13. She is a competitive gymnast and a jeep lover.
Chiari Malformation is a rare condition where the brain is too big for the skull. The base of your brain called the cerebellum tonsils, sink into your spinal canal. This can also cause cerebral spinal fluid to redirect into the spinal cord making a cyst/fluid build up called a Syringomyelia.
Symptoms-
*Bad headaches
*Neck pain
*Unsteady walk and trouble with balance.
*Poor hand coordination.
*Numbness and tingling of the hands and feet.
*Dizziness.
*Trouble swallowing. This sometimes happens with gagging, choking and vomiting.
*Speech changes, such as hoarseness.
*Ringing or buzzing in the ears, known as tinnitus.
Weakness.
*Slow heart rhythm.
*Curvature of the spine, known as scoliosis. The curvature is related to spinal cord impairment.
*Trouble with breathing. This includes central sleep apnea, which is when a person stops breathing during sleep.
