About this Event
Thank You for your interest in volunteering for Deco Week 2024 with Cal Poly Rose Float. Please read through all the information below about Deco Week so you can enjoy a seamless and fun decorating experience.
Before Checking In:
You are signing up for Deco Week where volunteers work side by side to fully decorate the Rose Parade Float that Cal Poly students have spent the last year designing and building. Cal Poly Rose Float creates amazing floats with support from individuals such as yourself. If you would like to show support to this student-led organization, you can donate here to help the program continue to grow and provide amazing experiences for students.
Everyone Must Print and Sign a Liability Form (will be updated with new link) before arriving at Deco Week.
Parking will be available in Lot I. Directions and parking to the decorating site can be found HERE!
Please Dress to Work. You will be in contact with flowers, glues, water, and other materials that may stain or ruin clothing. We highly recommend wearing old clothing that you do not mind getting messy. Jeans and Cotton T-shirts are a typical outfit. Closed Toed Shoes are Required. Also, Check the Weather, historically it can be cold and rainy during Deco Week, so bring an old jacket and layers to keep yourself comfortable.
Make sure to bring a Water Bottle. Note that storage is limited, so please reduce the number of personal belongings you bring with you as much as possible. (Cal Poly Rose Float is not responsible for lost or damaged items)
Please arrive on time for your shift and check in with the Cal Poly Volunteer check-in booth. Please look for Cal Poly signage while checking in.
During Decorating:
Decorating the float is an exciting, intricate process that requires hundreds of volunteers to accomplish!
There are many tasks that range from placing flowers on the float, to working outside cleaning buckets. All tasks are equally important to the final decoration of the float. We ask that you Arrive Willing to Accept any Task.
Cal Poly Rose Float is a student-led organization, and as such you will be receiving directions from students. Rose Float Students can be identified by their Green Coveralls with the Rose Float Logo on the back. If any issues arise during decorating, please inform one of the students and they will be able to help you with your needs.
While working please be conscious of the environment around you. The decorating bay can be a hectic environment with driving forklifts, moving pallets of flowers, and scaffolding. Your Safety is of our utmost importance, and we are here to support you so you can feel safe and comfortable while working. Safety starts with you, so please Act in a Safe and Respectful Manner.
Only individuals of the age 16 and older are allowed to decorate directly on the float or on the scaffolding. Those under the age of 16 can still participate in the decorating process but will be given tasks on the ground.
Float decorating is a family-friendly event intended for those over the age of 12 years old. Children from the ages of 8 to 12 may not be old enough to engage in some of the decorating activities and will need parental supervision.
Finally, have fun! This is a great opportunity to meet others who also love Rose Float while contributing to a dynamic art project that will be seen by millions worldwide!
After Decorating:
After decorating the float, please stop by the Cal Poly Rose Float , so you can memorialize the great time you had decorating the Cal Poly Rose Float. Cash and card are accepted at the store.
Make sure to tune into the Rose Parade on New Year's Day 2025!
