The Big Sky Horse Park “Breeches N Buckles” Open Shows are designed to allow a large range of riders/horses to have a lot of fun! Points are aggregate across all four shows for the series High Point Awards.• Open – exactly what it says – any rider/horse combination.
• Green horse – you’re on your honor, here. No specific # of ribbons, shows or years under saddle. These classes are for horses that need ring seasoning, not as a warm up for classes later. Green horses can show in Green and Open. Not advised that a Novice rider show a Green horse, not prohibited. Safety first in these classes.
• Novice – same deal, only applies to riders.
• Small Fry – 12 and under, if show Small Fry, cannot show any other division.
• Youth – under 17, if have an advanced rider under 12, may show Youth, may not show Small Fry
• Old Snorts – 50+
There are some fun classes sprinkled throughout the day, open to everyone. They’re placed so that, if you want to get your kid’s horse in the ring before their class, you can do one of these. If you don’t want to “show”, but you want to play, you can do these. If you want a Novice rider to get a chance to go in the ring with low stress? You can do these. The fun classes aren’t warm ups, and you will be excused for schooling.
• Ribbon Ride – 2 horse/riders – each need to hold onto an end of a ribbon. Last pair to drop the ribbon, wins the class. Placing in reverse order of drop. Points apply
• Egg & Spoon – if you haven’t done one of these, you’re in for an omelet! Points apply
• $5 Dollar Bareback – last one to still have the bill under their knee, gets to keep it! Placing in reverse order of drop. Points apply
• Open Command – also known as Break & Out or Simon Says. Pick your tack, placing in reverse order of break. Points apply. 2nd Command class of the day is double points!
• Walk/Trot Command – if there is enough interest on any given day, we can add a less challenging Command class for Novice and Small Fry riders. No cross entry with Open Command.
• Musical Cones – just like musical chairs, but you get to stay in the saddle. Points apply.
High Point Awards:
Per class placing – 7,5,3,2,1 – if fewer than 5 horses, points drop from the top
Small Fry (12 and under)
Youth (17 and under)
Open
Old Snort (over 50)
Novice
Secret Snooper – Good Horsemanship Award
