Walk To End Alzheimer's - Nov 2Did you know that Parrot Heads in Paradise (our parent organization) is a Silver Level Sponsor for the Walk To End Alzheimer’s? Well, it’s true! And, what it means is that Parrot Heads Clubs have a collective goal to raise $100,000 through their various walks. Historically, we’ve done more than that because we are good that way when it comes to charity but, of course, we always want to raise the bar!
For the newcomers to our Parrot Head world, Parrot Heads in Paradise joined with the Alzheimer’s Association to honor Jimmy’s Dad, James Delaney Buffett, Jr, who passed away from the disease in 2003.
Our club’s goal this year is $2,000 and the Phoenix Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, November 2. We hope to do a nice leisurely 5K walk then replenish afterwards at a local watering hole. The weather is usually amazing for us. Not too hot, not too cold.
Please join our Arizona Parrot Head Team by clicking on this link https://act.alz.org/site/TR?fr_id=17440&pg=team&team_id=856586. If you’re for sure not going to be able to walk with us, you can always donate directly to the team at that same link. After you’ve joined, set your personal goal and update your message on your donation page.
If you can’t walk with us but still want to help raise funds, please join the team then promote, promote, promote.
Here are some ideas for how to raise funds:
You can use your Walk Participant Center to create email donation requests. They have some canned messages to use but you can also modify them or create your own.
Post it on Facebook or other social media and ask for donations. It helps to add a personal story to the request.
Find out if your employer has any programs that will contribute funds and start the process to get a donation from them. Check to see if they’re already set up at this link https://ww2.matchinggifts.com/walk.
We’re all collecting pop tops for Ronald McDonald house, right? Well, what are you doing with the rest of the cans? Start saving them (pro tip, squish them down for easier storage) and turn them into cash at a recycling center then donate it to your Walk. Another tip - ask others to save their cans for you, too.
Have everything you need? When someone asks you what you want for your birthday or anniversary, ask them to donate to your page as their gift. Bonus is that they get a tax deductible donation out of it.
Have more than everything you need? Have a garage sale (maybe a group one) and donate some or all of the proceeds.
Drop it in relevant conversations. True story from Kathy P: I have a former colleague who donated just because I told a story about my Grandma and said I did the walk every year in honor of her. I didn’t even directly ask her to give!
Make it a pyramid scheme and get others to join our team. It’s really about what we collectively raise so the more peeps, the better!
Hope to see many of you on November 2 and good luck in your fundraising!
