About this Event

ACADIA NOMAS Introduction to Computational Design Workshop

ACADIA (Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture) is pleased to announce a specially organized workshop for NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) Student Chapters participating in the 2024 NOMA Barbara G. Laurie Design Student Competition, "Highway to Healing: The Transformation of the West Baltimore I-40 Corridor," focusing on the transformation of the West Baltimore.

This free workshop, titled "Introduction to Computational Design," aims to equip NOMAS students with essential knowledge and skills in computational design. Students who opt into the ACADIAxNOMAS workshop content on their competition entries will be eligible for the ACADIA Award.

Date and Time:

Saturday, June 15, 2024

1:00 - 4:00 PM EST

Overview:

This virtual workshop will delve into the concept of computational design and explore its potential to support the social, environmental, and material goals of architectural and urban design projects. The workshop will specifically address how computational design can enhance the work of NOMAS teams participating in the design of the NOMA 2024 in the transformation of West Baltimore.

Led by esteemed Board Members of ACADIA, the workshop will feature introductions to computational design themes, concise technical demonstrations, and valuable resources for further exploration and consideration of the topics covered. Participants will be able to engage with the workshop leaders and seek feedback on their computational design explorations through optional follow-up sessions.

Software:

This workshop will utilize Rhino3D and Grasshopper to communicate computational thinking and design.

Workshop Leaders:

  • Felecia Davis, Ph.D.
  • Biayna Bogosian, Ph.D.
  • Vernelle A.A. Noel, Ph.D.
  • Shermeen Yousif, Ph.D.

Registration:

NOMAS students can register to participate in this workshop by following the link provided. Upon registration via Eventbrite, participants will receive an email containing the Zoom link for the workshop and instructions on joining.
