The most exciting weekend in amateur motorsports is confirmed to return once again in early June! As they’ve done for the previous 28 years, the Tire Rack/Yokohama/Windy City BMW aim to host a fun weekend of driving, friends, and food in South Bend, IN. For those of you who haven’t joined us in the past, this is one event you do NOT want to miss! Not just one, but two days of autocross on the Tire Rack’s test track – a small road course that can be configured many ways and requires fewer cones than we use in a parking lot.
We are currently planning our traditional Dumpster Party at the Super 8 in South Bend Friday night. We have gotten two room blocks: one at the Super 8 and the other at America’s Best Value Inn. The Super 8 (574-400-8616) is under BMW Windy City and available until 5/20-$64.95 to 76.95 plus tax. America’s Best Value Inn (574-277-7700) is under Windy City BMW. There are many hotels in the South Bend area.
We have a casual start on Saturday – while registration opens at 8:00 AM EASTERN time and the first car will be off at 9:00, participants are welcome to arrive later in the morning as well. There will be no drivers meeting on Saturday. All of the runs are just for fun, but we’ll have the timer up and running so you can measure your improvement throughout the day. And once again, thanks to our volunteer chefs, Saturday lunch will be grilled up right next to the track. The fun continues into the evening at the Road K*ll Grille under the big tent at the Tire Rack. More great food and awesome raffle prizes are just $12 per person (please make this check payable to Windy City BMW). You may BYOB, and you must be present to win a raffle prize.
Sunday is a competitive autocross on the Tire Rack’s test track. Check-in will begin at 8:00am EASTERN time and close at 8:25am, with the mandatory drivers meeting to follow. Please be aware of the time change and make sure you’re on time; missing the drivers meeting means you won’t be participating on Sunday. We aim to wrap up the driving by about 3:00 PM EASTERN time, allowing everyone to get back home by early evening.
Please plan on bringing your own lunch on SUNDAY or visit one of the many nearby establishments.
Registration is $60 total – that check is written to charity -and thanks to the generosity of Yokohama and the Tire Rack, 100% of the registration fee will go to your choice of charities: BMW CCA Foundation, GiGis Playhouse, or the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Please make this check payable to your preferred charity.
