The 2022 Primary Election will include a number of races including County Commissioners, State Representatives, U.S. Representative, and Governor. Only those registered with a major party: Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian may vote in New Mexico primaries.Interested in running for office? Please review the 2022 Candidate information available on the Secretary of State’s website (https://www.sos.state.nm.us/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/2022-Primary-Candidate-Guide.pdf). Candidate packets are also available at our office.
Important Dates:
January 31, 2022: The Secretary of State issues the Primary Election proclamation.
February 1, 2022: Filing Day for pre-primary designation candidates for U.S. Representative or all statewide offices at the Secretary of State’s Office.
March 8, 2022: Filing Day for all other offices and those who fail to receive pre-primary designation for U.S. Representative or a statewide office.
May 10, 2022: Absentee Voting begins; Voter Registration closes online or by mail. *A qualified elector may register to vote or update an existing certification of registration in person at the county clerk’s office, or designated alternative voting locations, immediately prior to voting through June 4, 2022. Registered voters may not update their party affiliation during this time.*
May 10, 2022: Early Voting begins at the Dona Ana County Government Center.
May 21, 2022: Early Voting begins at Alternate Voting Locations.
June 7, 2022: Primary Election Day
