What is a Tunnel To Towers Climb?The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk & Climb Series was created to honor the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Honor all of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and support our first responders and military who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty! This will be the second year climbing at the Equitable Towers in Syracuse and we are hoping for a big turnout to honor the 20th anniversary of 9-11.
How many floors is the Tunnel to Towers Climb?
The Equitable Towers are 19 floors each. Participants will climb one of the two twin towers up 19 floors. Some participants may choose to go up 5 times to represent the 100 floors of the Twin Towers in NYC.
Will there be a power hour?
A power hour will be offered. A power hour is simply a one hour running clock and participants will be timed and count how many times they go up within the hour. The power hour is intended for athletes and trained climbers. Details coming soon.
Where can I pick up my packet?
Details will be coming on packet pick up!
Can I register the day of the climb?
Yes. Registration will open at 7am the morning of the run. Please note that if you wait until after Wednesday of the event you will not be timed. Also all registration will be paperless this year so bring your phone and you’ll be asked to scan a Q-code and pay online.
When does online registration close?
Online registration will not close but if you chose to wait and register we cannot offer chip timing after Wednesday October 20, 2021. You can still register on our website and at the event but you will not be timed.
Do I have to wear my bib number?
Yes, please display your bib on the front of your outermost garment.
I am a fast climber. Can I get a front line position?
Yes if you are competitive climber you will be seated in the earliest wave before we start the first responder. All climbers will be spaced out about 20 seconds apart.
Will there be awards for climbing?
Yes, we keep them very simple since our mission is to honor first responders, most of our awards are based on firefighters, police or military running in gear in the same fashion that Stephen Siller did on 9/11. This event is intended to be an experience and much more than a run. The event is currently not timed. This may change as plans develop and sponsors sign up.
Will water be available?
Yes, a water station will be available midway through the climb.
Will there be a bail out floor?
Yes, EMT will be available and if you cannot finish to the top we will provide an opportunity to bail out. All climbers will take the elevators down. There is no climbing down the stairs.
Does my registration fee count towards my fundraising goal?
Your registration fee does not count toward the fundraising goal.
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
Yes, they can. They must present a copy of your registration receipt. And don't forget to thank them!
Can I still donate to a team and/or individual after the start of the Climb?
Yes. Donations will be accepted for 6 weeks after the event.
How can my company/organization sponsor this event?
Please send all sponsorship correspondence to [email protected] with your contact information and someone will be in touch with you within 24 hours.

Yes! Once you are registered, you will be given directions to start your own fundraising page and you will be able to accept donations online. Do you want to donate cash/money? Can I transfer my registration to another participant?

Can I get a refund?
We do not provide refunds for the event regardless if you cannot make the date or the foundation needs to cancel the event for extenuating circumstances. Registration may be transferred to another person.
How can I volunteer?
It's simple! Email us at [email protected] and we will reply within 24 hours. Volunteers are always needed for the day of festivities. You can also register by filling out the Volunteer Registration Option on our Website. Thank you!
Do registrants get receipts?
When you register online you should automatically receive a receipt. If paying by credit card or check that is your receipt. If paying in cash, receipt upon request.
Is there a medical staff available on-site?
Yes, there will be an Emergency Medical Service team available on site. There is also radio communication available on the course to help communicate with the EMS.
What safety measures are you taking in regards to COVID-19?
We will be abiding by all local and state guidelines in regards to masks and social distancing. Stay tuned for updates as the event gets closer.
What is the difference between the Virtual Run registration option and the others?
As a virtual participant, you will be able to climb from anywhere. (run hills, stairmaster or event a good incline on the treadmill - it’s totally up to you) If you’re unable to attend the event or are hesitant about going out, you can still participate and support. Please note that you will receive a t-shirt with this registration option but you must pick up your shirts at the scheduled packet pick up for the event. We will not ship or mail any t-shirts.

Yes, we offer fundraising incentives each year; check out our latest in our Fundraising Guide. To qualify, complete your fundraising by June 30, 2021 for winter and spring events, or November 1, 2021 for summer and fall events.
