***** COVID-19 Rules for this walk *****We prefer you be vaccinated, but will not play vaccine cop, so please act responsibly. Mask use is required, and please practice social distancing. We are not out of the COVID woods yet, and are stuck in the middle of a delta variant outbreak, but hopefully we will be able to drop these requirements if and when the situation improves.
***** No dogs! *****
We have had too many incidences of tripping and people bringing dogs that can't handle the heat and distance of these walks. Come back another time and follow the route map with your furry friends!
***** No Hiking Poles! *****
Save the poles for the mountains; they are a hazard when people are tightly packed on narrow stairways and trails. If you must use poles, then come back another time, load the map on your phone, and do a self-directed walk with your poles.
Start Location:
The Starbucks we used to use is now closed, so we start at the Reverent Coffee Bar located near the former Starbucks at 627 Deep Valley Dr, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. I will verify that this location has a restroom, and may move to another place if this location is not suitable.

This hilly 9.8 mile loop starts at 8am, at the Starbucks at the Promenade at the Peninsula (P@P) Mall in Palos Verdes (PV), address: 550 Deep Valley Dr #179, Rolling Hills, CA 90274
PLEASE NOTE: For those driving to the start, I highly recommend you take Silver Spur to Dry Gulch Rd to reach the parking structure at the Promenade. The Reverent Coffee Bar will be to your right on Deep Springs Dr, just after you exit the parking structure. Park close to where you enter the structure, and walk to the Coffee Bar.
This scenic and challenging route circles the crest of Palos Verdes, offering spectacular ocean vistas while traversing 38 stairways. This includes plunging down the Zote's Cut-Across Trail, then climbing up the Rattlesnake Trail to reach and then climb the 273 step monster stairway at the Altamira Canyon outfall, for a total of 1,109 up steps (more iof you climb a 100_ step bonus stairway en-route) and ~1,600 feet of total elevation gain. The loop also visits multiple parks and open spaces. We take a nice rest/water restroom break at scenic Hesse Park at close to the midpoint of the walk. We expect to finish before 1:30pm, unless the group is large, and just in time for lunch at the Promenade, which has a wide variety of eating establishments.
