About this Event
200 years ago, in 1824, Cornish miners arrived in the Pachuca-Real del Monte area of Hidalgo, central Mexico, bringing their mining expertise and technology. This migratory wave led to close ties with Cornwall and Mexico, resulting in a transnationalism that bound these two communities together. Nowadays in Mexico, Pastes and an annual Paste festival, town twinning, Cornish-style engine houses, Methodist chapels, and graveyards mark out the historical and continuing heritage between Cornwall and Mexico; 200 years later, the connection is alive and well.
This event will showcase this cultural fusion, both historical and contemporary. From talks to a dynamic roundtable event, this afternoon of events at Penryn campus promises to be a vibrant homage to the enduring legacy of this historic migration.
