The Hands Off Uhuru Fightback Coalition invites you to join us on the second anniversary of the brutal FBI/police raids on 7 homes and offices of the Uhuru Movement in two cities, as we hear messages of support and solidarity from numerous organizations and individuals who have stood with Chairman Omali Yeshitela and the Uhuru Movement.
On September 3rd, 2024, the Uhuru 3 are due in federal court in Tampa to begin trial on baseless charges that they are secret pawns in a Russian government conspiracy. If convicted, they face up to 15 years in prison, effectively a life sentence for Yeshitela, an 82-year-old veteran of the African liberation movement.
First Amendment lawyers and analysts warn that this is a precedent-setting case that will put an end to constitutional protections of everyone’s free speech rights. Activists and historians denounce the charges as a continuation of the FBI’s decades-long war on the Black movement which has targeted black leaders including Marcus Garvey, W.E.B. DuBois, Paul Robeson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton and Fred Hampton.
Speakers will include Lisa Davis, Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations, Belinda Parker Brown, Louisiana United International, Betty Davis, New Abolitionists, Ron Gochez, Union de Barrio, Attorney Jenipher Jones of the Leonard Peltier Ad Hoc Committee, Jill Stein, Green Party Presidential Candidate, and Cornel West, Independent Presidential Candidate, among many others.
