2 Spirit-ual Art Exhibition set for 1st Friday May 3rd

[Tulsa, OK] — Painter Dawn Tree will be debuting the 2 Spirit-ual Art Exhibition hosted by Vast Bank Friday, May 3rd 5:30 - 7pm in the lobby of the bank at 110 N. Elgin Ave. A live performance piece will begin at 5:30 pm including a dance performance from Wise Moves Academy for Performing and Creative Arts and PhatPhat, 10-year-old music artist and CEO of Help PhatPhat Give Back-Program Feed77 nonprofit, which addresses homelessness and bullying. This performance will include curated music and an auction of Dawn Tree’s original artworks.

"2 Spirit- ual" is a personal artistic display and study on what masculine and feminine means to Tree. The use of certain colors and the cartoon Pink Panther helped her illustrate how fluid these genders can work together for her. The use of certain textures including fabric, paper, wood and bamboo sheets help aid to the aspect of fluidity. The Pink Panther itself is known for always getting into peculiar situations, often hurtful, embarrassing and troublesome but ultimately the conclusion is always good. Tree wants you to channel your childlike mind and spirit and open yourself to perspectives that aren't firmly masculine or feminine but both. “Two-spirit" is a term that dates back to early history for Native/Mexican tribes that described their more blended gender people as two spirited.

Tree is also the author of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street: A Modernized Revelation art history book, speaker, award winning journalist and community organizer.
