(6p-7p) Everything You Need to Thrive While Backpacking: Tips on Packing & Unpacking (and Repacking) for the Woods
"It's hard to overstate the difference that a well-packed (or poorly-packed) bag can have on your nature outing. Whether heading out for five hours days or weeks packing well is the number one way to make sure you always have what you need when you need it and without injuring yourself. Join 'Canoe' Sam at this interactive workshop no matter your experience level in the outdoors! And don't forget a rainjacket! (No ~actual~ materials needed but attendees are encouraged to bring their own outing packs essential supplies and first aid kits if they have them)."
Presented by Sam Berman Trip Camp Coordinator & Guide at Camp Unirondack.
'Canoe' Sam Berman has been a wilderness guide of the northeastern woods for nine years. They currently coordinate the youth and adult wilderness trip programs for Unirondack (a radically inclusive summer camp and adult retreat center). Sam is passionate and always stoked about bringing as many people as they can to have an adventure in the outdoors.

(7p-8p) The Land is Indigenous: Anti-Colonial Considerations for Those Who Love to be Outside
No matter who you are if you live in the United States (or any other capitalist society really) chances are you’re used to looking at nature through a Colonialist lens. Even if we love the outdoors with all our heart and soul and do our best to approach the environment with reverence and care it is really REALLY hard to unlearn the conditioning that tells us the land is a resource for us to use - that we are separate from nature - that humans are what make the natural become unnatural. In this workshop we will be taking some time to consider lessons from Anishinaabe worldview that flip these assumptions on their heads. We will talk about how to see and engage with our plant animal water and land relatives differently. Not just from a place of respect - but from a place of interconnectedness and relationship.
Presented by Caleb Seguin (Anishinaabe) Co-Director at Camp Unirondack.
Caleb Seguin is Director of Camp Unirondack and a lifelong lover of the outdoors. As a mixed-race Indigenous person his work and relationships with people rocks water and trees is always deeply informed by the Anishinaabe teachings grew up with. As an educator and a creator of inclusive outdoor spaces Caleb works to weave values of autonomy community responsibility reciprocity and silliness into all that he does.
