1ST FRIDAY GALLERY OPENING NIGHT: OCTOBERJoin us at the Planted. Gallery during October for From the Corner of My Eye to the Back of My Mind, a photography exhibit by Tom Kedzie.
Tom Kedzie is a Dubuque transplant who was drawn to the Midwest by its striking scenery and intriguing diversions. Formerly an art publisher and distributor, he now enjoys retirement and has the time to pursue his passion for photography. Tom primarily uses his cellphone to take photos and then edits them using apps on both his phone and computer. After 50 years of feeling restricted by traditional cameras and film, he appreciates the freedom that comes with shooting photos on a phone.
This collection of work Tom describes as “Ordinary snapshots with imaginary meanings.” The original photos are often spontaneous and random, capturing moments from travel and everyday life. To Tom, these original images are not that important, but rather a base for the creativity to come. To be finished the images go through at least two editing apps. It is during this editing process that Tom considers the original images, allowing them to provoke stories or phrases that guide him in developing their “imaginary meanings.”
The show will be on display from October 4 - 29; the opening reception is Friday, October 4th from 6-8 pm. This event is free and open to the public
