TRASH PARADE 2025Theme: WATER
The first annual Trash Parade is a creative community event aimed at repurposing recyclable materials and other waste products into puppets, costumes, masks, and banners to march in a procession in downtown Schenectady.
This is a community effort and will be open to all to create and march!
Starting at Jay Square, and processing down Jay Street at the beginning of Art Night Schenectady. Working our way back to Jay Square. Pieces will then be displayed that night during Art Night. Exact route TBD.
Some imagery that could be used with the theme of "WATER":
-Fish of all kinds
-Insects that live in and around streams, rivers, ponds
-Turtles and frogs and other amphibians
-Birds and water fowl
-Waves, ripples, water moving
-Boats of all kinds
-plastic and other garbage that pollutes our water
-toxic waste
-mythological creatures
-much more

This event will be updated with examples as people start to work on their projects.
Purpose:
Raise awareness of repurposing waste materials, reusing what we already have before producing new goods. Raise awareness of the effects of single use plastics on our environment. Using the theme of “water” to communicate the importance of water on all living organisms on the planet. Increasing environmental literacy while having fun!
Leading up to the march, we will be hosting a series of maker workshops. Our first is an informational on April 9th. More details and other dates to come!

The parade is open to all to create something and participate. If you have a group that would like to form a "krewe", let us know.
