Sessions Overview

(8:30 - 10 a.m.)
Keynote: Moments of Joy, Jolene Brackey, author of Creating Moments of Joy and nationwide speaker on Alzheimer’s education
In this presentation, you’ll be sure to see the vision. A vision that we will soon look beyond the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease and focus more of our energy on creating moments of joy. It’s impossible to create a perfectly wonderful day, but you can create perfectly wonderful moments. Catch Jolene's energy and obtain fun, simple ways to bring joy and hope into everyday.

(10:15 - 11:15 a.m.)
Family Moments, Jolene Brackey, author of Creating Moments of Joy and nationwide speaker on Alzheimer’s education
Families have the knowledge to build a bridge between the care provider, and the person with Alzheimer’s. Families can share missing details, create links to a person’s mind, and assist in giving back their greatness. This will educate families how to move, what to move, how to visit, and what to expect. Helping families understand dementia and how to apply that knowledge.

How To Be With Others in Grief, Kimberly McDonald, MSW, LCSW, CPG, Gerontology – Aging Services Professional Program Instructor, Northwood Technical College
The presentation will include discussion of all aspects of grief – from understanding grief, the types of grief, and how we support others throughout the grief process. We will also discuss how we can engage in self-preservation and set boundaries during the grief journey.

(12 - 1:30 p.m.)
Diving Deeper into Dementia, Sheri Fairman, MSW, Certified Advanced Consultant, Trainer and Champion Teacher, owner of Dementia Care Solutions
How do I know what is causing changes in the brain? Is it dementia, or something else? Let’s dive in and learn more about dementia and signs of typical aging brain changes. Let’s explore what we CAN do to reduce our risk.

Common Scams & Fraud, Jeff Kersten, Outreach Specialist, Bureau of Consumer Protection within Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (WI DATCP)
The Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection will discuss the details of common scams, the warning signs of a scam, and what to do if you or someone you know falls victim to a scam or fraud. Helpful factsheets from The Bureau of Consumer Protection will be available. As Wisconsin’s lead agency for consumer protection, the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection, provides information and education, mediates complaints, investigates cases, and takes enforcement actions to fight fraudulent and deceptive practices that harm consumers and honest businesses.

(1:45 - 2:45 p.m.)
Communication Throughout the Different Generations, Brad Gingras, professional trainer, facilitator, generational strategist and consultant; Executive Director of Northwest Wisconsin Area Health Education Center (NWAHEC).
Communication has always been difficult and a frustration in the workforce, but with wild advances in technology the rate of change across the generations the frustration and confusion has increased rapidly. This session will identify where communication was, where it is, and where it’s headed, but most importantly leaves the participants with knowledge and skills to adapt appropriately.
