Jazz AND history in one evening!?1959 was a significant year in the history of jazz music with the release of four major albums. Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue‘, Ornette Coleman’s ‘The Shape of Jazz to Come’, Charles Mingus with ‘Mingus Ah Um’ and not forgetting Dave Brubeck with ‘Time Out’. The world of jazz changed forever. As well as groundbreaking changes in jazz - 1959 also saw a wide range of changes in world politics, fashion, music, sports and advances in technology.
To celebrate this momentous year join us at Tysoe Village Hall to hear and see news, facts and discussion about 1959 AND hear Tysoe’s very own Jazz59 Quartet play the entirety of the Miles Davis album ‘Kind of Blue’.
Enjoy audience participation (see if you can guess some of the faces in the news in 1959), some fine wines, snacks and of course a raffle - we are fundraising for the next steps in our building refurbishment.
