What kind of jobs did 18th century women hold? Join us as we explore the work that was traditionally done by women. We've looked at women who stepped into their husbands' trades, but what about work that was always designated as "women's work?" Our Keynote Speaker, Mara Riley, will enlighten us on the types of jobs women traditionally engaged in. As is our tradition, we will have a main sewing project. We will learn about caps, the various styles and changes throughout the century and the types of caps worn in different contexts. Participants will receive patterns for round ear and lappet caps and will choose a style to work on at the workshop to be finished at home. We will also furnish 1/2 yard of prewashed handkerchief linen. There will be another small project to be determined.
We will kick off our event on Sunday February 23 at 7 pm with a zoom presentation by Carrie Fellows on the lives of women who followed the army.
As in the past, we will gather for a social event Friday evening for dinner and shopping. Our Swap and Shop will be open and ready for business! We are also thrilled to have Love and Death Mementos and Peas Projects historic fabrics set up to tempt you into more 18th century inspired goodies!
Your ticket to this event will include all meals--Friday night dinner, breakfast/lunch/dinner and snacks on Saturday.
The cost for the event will be $200. Tickets will go on sale Sunday December 1 at 7 pm EST.
