Join us on December 21 at 6:00 p.m. for a memorial service to honor those who have passed away this year with homelessness as a root cause. The service will be held at Mt. Olive SDA Church, 14 Linden Street, New London.Since its founding in 2006, following the tragic deaths of Bill Walsh and Danny Worobel, two gentlemen experiencing homelessness who died outside, the New London Homeless Hospitality Center has hosted this annual memorial as a way to remember and honor those who have lost their lives. December 21 is the longest night of the year, a brutal time to have none of the basic comforts of home.
Despite our years of advocacy so that no one is forced to stay outside, the crisis of homelessness is on the rise. The Homeless Hospitality Center offers services like diversion programs, rapid rehousing, respite care, a warming center, a housing resource center, and low-cost housing options. However, the affordable and available housing crisis continues to have a devastating impact on individuals and families in our community.
Mt. Olive SDA Church has a long history of service to its neighbors including hosting the areas first ever soup kitchen. This year we will remember over one dozen members of our community who have passed.
The service will include both indoor and outdoor portions. Masks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Refreshments will be available to take home.
We hope you will join us in remembering and honoring those we've lost. If you would like to participate in the service by adding a loved ones name to the list, offering a song, a poem, or words of encouragement, please email [email protected] to register. If you would like to donate to NLHHC in memory of a loved one, please visit www.nlhhc.org/donate. For more information, please contact Annah at 860-501-9900, ext 103.
The Homeless Memorial is open to all.
