Join us as the First Congregational Church of Madison’s Music at the Meetinghouse concert series celebrates the 150th “birthday” of its historic 1875 Steinway Grand piano with a piano duet concert featuring Duo Fuerza, pianists James D’León and Alwen Yeung. $20 tickets will be available at the door.Praised by critics for their “exciting pianism filled with highly powerful emotion” and “sensitive playing and touch,” pianists James D’León and Alwen Yeung have paired up to form a musical ensemble that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Along with their natural ability of working in sync to reveal the color and essence of each work, they bring audiences even closer by their “Conversations from the Piano” approach, creating an engaging, challenging, and fun experience for all. Their program will include an eclectic mix of compositions ranging from refined classical and romantic works, such as Franz Schubert and Sergei Rachmaninoff, to raucous tangos by Astor Piazzolla and jazzy works by George Gershwin.
Labeled “A jewel of an instrument”, the church’s beautiful rosewood, 85-key 1875 Steinway Grand piano was restored in 2007 and is lauded for its intricate woodwork, vibrant sound, and sensitive action. Built in the time period of such powerhouse performers as Camille Saint-Saëns, Anton Rubinstein, and Johannes Brahms, this remarkable instrument continues to bless the community 150 years after its construction.
