Join a national park ranger at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester for a 30 minute talk on the 1864 Civil War campaigns in the strategic Shenandoah Valley. Kernstown Battlefield Association, a nonprofit group, operates the historic battlefield. The battlefield is part of Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District.The Shenandoah Valley witnessed its bloodiest fighting throughout 1864, ending in October with the Federal victory at Cedar Creek. Park rangers use the surrounding Shenandoah Valley landscape and objects from a box to place visitors in the middle of the campaign.
