17 Years of Cannibal RadioIn Agioi Anargyroi, at a time when the debate was still MySpace vs Facebook and the Sony Ericsson K750i was considered the ultimate mobile phone, a group of people with a passion for music and radio decided to create their own online radio station. A station without predetermined playlists, built to provide everyone with a platform for free expression.
During the same period, other independent radio projects were emerging across Europe, such as Radio Meuh in France, Le Mellotron, BLN.FM in Berlin and Intergalactic FM in the Netherlands. Later, NTS Radio would launch in London.
Cannibal Radio soon found a home on Marni Street and later on the Pallados str., in collaboration with Habeat Records. In recent years, the station’s studio has been based on Mavrokordatou str., alongside b·side, creating one of the strongest hubs of the electronic music scene in Athens.
Seventeen years later, Cannibal Radio continues its uninterrupted presence as an independent, DIY initiative with a central focus on underground electronic music. Through live DJ sets, interviews, thematic shows, exclusive playlists and constant interaction with its audience, it has shaped a distinct identity within the Athenian music landscape.
The most important achievement of these 17 years, however, is the community that has formed around Cannibal Radio. A community of people from diverse backgrounds but with a shared love for music, leaving its mark on the city through values, aesthetics, and artistic creation.
To celebrate 17 years of operation, Cannibal Radio is hosting a four-day festival on September 4, 5, 6, and 7, dedicated to all those who have contributed to and continue to support this unique journey.
