We invite you to the opening reception of a powerful exhibition curated by Mikaela Shafer that asks an important question: "How can we lovingly honor our ancestors, heal generational traumas, and preserve culture in the modern world?" This exhibition is a celebration of Indigenous art and culture, shining a light on the diverse stories and experiences of our Native community.Tacoma-based band Lozen will perform a few acoustic opening songs to open the event in a good way. Lozen, most known for their alternative metal and noise rock sound, is made up of talented musicians Hozoji Matheson-Margullis, Justine Maria Valdezand Chris Duenas. Food and refreshments will also be served during the opening event.
This exhibition showcases a diverse array of Indigenous artists from the Pacific Northwest, each representing their unique tribes, communities, and stories. Together, they address the challenges faced by Indigenous peoples today—relocation, disconnection, and modernization—while celebrating resilience, beauty, and the enduring spirit of native communities.
