Come join us as we replenish our nationally-certified butterfly sanctuary at The Butterfly Bar @The VORTEX. Over 16 years, we have actively cultivated butterfly vines, fed the caterpillars, and watched them emerge from their chrysalises as butterflies of many varieties. We have documented more than 40 species of butterflies that have passed through our Butterfly Garden at The VORTEX. Celebrate with neighbors and friends of The VORTEX with a day of art, planting, live music, and renewal of the Earth. Bring a butterfly plant to add to our butterfly garden. Opportunities for plantings and education. Live Music with NECHERU, formerly known as Roland & the Roots Riddim. Kids will love Tiny Tails to You Petting Zoo. Arts and crafts provide hands-on opportunities for people to create their own butterfly-inspired artworks. The Butterfly Bar serves Garden-inspired cocktails.
Donations of butterfly-friendly plants are much appreciated. These native plants would be great additions to the sanctuary: Native Milkweed(not tropical, for the Monarchs), Shrimp Plant, Verbena, Frogfruit, Gregg’s Mistflower, Fennel, Dill, Sweet Alyssum, and Nasturtium. Other plants that folks could also bring include Passion Vine, Coral Honey Suckle, Alamo Vine, Spicebush, Lantana, Sunflower, Flame Acanthus, Fire Bush, Bottlebrush, Bluebonnet, Indian Paintbrush, Salvia, Purple Coneflower, Turk’s Cap, Yucca (twist-leaf).
Pottery, potting soil, mulch, & compost are much appreciated donations.
