RULES AND REGULATIONS....
Rules and regulation:
Anyone participating in this New years day polar bear dip, going into the sub freezing water of Kempenfelt bay, will be doing so at there own risk and will take full responsibility of their own actions and safety at this public city beach where my annual New Years Day Polar bear dip is held as my New Years Tradition.
People who participate should be of good health and should see their Doctor before attempting a polar bear dip, as it may cause a quick rise in heart rate and can cause shock and awe to anyone doing so, resulting in being very cold....and possible heart attack! (No Joke!)
Remember you are doing so at your own risk.... And by participating you are agreeing to this disclaimer.
Things to know in prep for a polar bear dip:
If you decide to join me at your own risk and safety you should come prepared to be cold!! ....
Thing you can do to prep for your dip, is wear your bathing suit under your cloths and bring a housecoat to wear over you as a coat to keep warm as you make your way to the water.
Bring extra cloths to change into after your dip by changing on the beach, (no change rooms/washrooms) or heading back to your warm car!
Bring camera if you want to take pictures for proof you did the dip.
Getting ready to dip:
When you are at the waters edge and we are ready to go, leave your cloths in pile or in bag while keeping your housecoat on. If no housecoat a large towel can be used to wrap yourself in, but a house coat is recommended as you can easily slip it on after your dip to keep warm as you change on the beach or head back to your car to change.
Now you're ready to dip! ...I will do a count down to go and then you can run or walk in carefully (watch for stones, they hurt your feet) and when you are in deep enough, (water usually around waist deep) you can either dunk in submerging your head, (your head must go right under to be a official polar bear) or dolphin dive in, or swim like I will.
When you rush out of the water as most do, grab your towel and dry off as best as you can and slip on your housecoat and shoes/boot quickly dry off and get warm again ....Simple!
Don't forget your camera to take pictures or video to show others how brave you are.
By participating you acknowledge you are doing so on your own free will and take full responsibility of your own actions and health should there be any accidental health and welfare issues.
Don't forget about a donation for the food bank
See you out there.
