About this Event
A joint celebration for two organisations with a shared history supporting artists in the city of Leeds. Corinne Miller (chair, Leeds Art Fund) will discuss the contribution of Leeds Fine Artists to the development of the Art Gallery before chairing a discussion about current and future plans.
Leeds Fine Artists is an association of artists from across Yorkshire. Founded in 1874 and originally called the Leeds Fine Art Club, LFA currently has over fifty exhibiting members working across a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and textiles.
In the past, regular annual exhibitions were held at Temple Newsam and works were acquired for the civic collection. Artists regularly held memberships of both organisations and from 1949 to 1957, LFA's President was Ernest Musgrave, holding this role whilst also working as the Director of the Art Galleries.
