It's a once-in-a-lifetime event! Alumni, Calvin students, faculty, staff, and families are invited to celebrate the university's 150th anniversary with a special night on Commons Lawn.Grab dinner at Commons Dining Hall—to be enjoyed inside or out on the lawn. From 5:30–8 p.m., enjoy carnival games, food trucks, music, and more. Stick around for an exclusive 150th anniversary video presentation, followed by the world-premiere of The Worldly Amusements, a Calvin coverband.
*What's the evening timeline?
- 5:30–8 p.m. — Commons Cookout with lawn activities (Carnival games, dessert food trucks, live DJ)
- 7:50 p.m. — Special 150th Anniversary Video Presentation
- 8 p.m. — The Worldly Amusements, a Calvin coverband
*What's for dinner?
Friday night's menu includes:
- Alabama BBQ boneless chicken
- Pulled pork sandwich
- Mac and cheese
- Smoked redskin potatoes
- Baked beans
- Salad bar
- Fresh cut fruit
- Vegan: BBQ mushroom and jackfruit sandwiches
Dessert will be served separately via our featured food trucks.
*Do I pay for dinner ahead of time or at the door?
Dinner will be paid for at the door ($10/pp), purchased by card only (no cash). Staff, faculty, and students may use their meal swipes.
*Where will I eat?
You are welcome to eat inside of Commons Dining Hall. Weather permitting, the dining hall's external doors will be open so you can enjoy sitting on the lawn!
*What should I bring?
The extravaganza is:
BYOLC (Bring Your Own Lawn Chair), or
BYOPB (Bring Your Own Picnic Blanket)...
if you'd like to sit outside during dinner. Minimal outdoor seating will be available, so we'd love for you to bring your own!
*What food trucks will be there?
All guests (including students, faculty, and staff who swipe in at Commons Dining Hall) will receive a complimentary $2 off coupon to be used at any of the following food trucks:
Big Mike's Kettle Corn — hand popped kettle corn and handmade lemonade shakers
Olly's Donuts — mini-donuts baked on-site, featuring toppings like maple bacon, salted caramel, smores, cookies & cream, and more
Furniture City Creamery — variety of made-from-scratch ice cream flavors (with lemon chill treat—vegan-friendly)
