Introduction
A brand-new exhibition celebrating 150 years of Blackburn Rovers Football Club has opened at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery—just yards from where the club was first formed in 1875.
Read all about it
The Rovers 150 Exhibition, developed in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council, is a heartfelt tribute to one of England’s oldest football clubs, capturing a century and a half of unforgettable moments, legendary players, and the voices of fans who have lived the highs and lows of life at Ewood Park.
Unlike a traditional timeline, the exhibition is shaped by personal memories and treasured memorabilia, offering a unique and emotional journey through the club’s past and present.
A Journey Through Football History
From the club’s early dominance in the FA Cup to the iconic 1994/95 Premier League title, the exhibition showcases moments that have shaped not just the club, but generations of supporters.
Among the highlights are:
The Premier League Trophy (on display on select dates)
Rare Edwardian match footage commissioned by George Green for his travelling fair
Match-worn shirts from club legends across the decades
The FA Cup Shield and winners’ medals from the 1880s
Memorabilia from the 1928, 1960 and 1987 finals
Contemporary items from stars such as Roque Santa Cruz, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Christopher Samba
A special audio installation by sound artist and lifelong fan Paul Nataraj adds a powerful layer to the experience, blending stories and voices from supporters across the borough.
Celebrating Football and Community
The exhibition is part of the club’s wider 150th anniversary celebrations, which will run throughout the year, with events including pre-season friendlies, a birthday celebration in November, and a potential live music event at Ewood Park.
Caroline Wilkinson, Curator of History at Blackburn Museum, said:
“We’ve had an unbelievable response from the fans. The memories and stories shared are full of passion and pride—whether you love Rovers or just love football, this exhibition will resonate.”
Councillor Phil Riley, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, added:
“Blackburn Rovers is woven into the very fabric of our town. This exhibition, hosted at the Museum in its own 150th year, is a fitting tribute to the club’s incredible heritage. I’d encourage everyone to visit.”
Lynsey Talbot, Head of Operations at Blackburn Rovers, said:
“Our club is built on the people and the community. This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for fans old and new to connect with our history. We’re thrilled to be working with the Museum to bring these memories to life.”
