The 148th Annual Exhibition of the Otago Art Society opens to the public on Saturday, 8th of June and runs until Thursday, 4th of July. Only 2 more years until our big 150th celebration!
The exhibition has an open theme, and all mediums were welcome. The result being an exhibition full of variety and celebrating local talent.
We are so proud of this exhibition because the work comes exclusively from our membership - local talent, showcased locally! When we see all the art gracing our gallery walls and displayed on our plinths we realise how much talent exists in Otago.
One of the highlights of this exhibition is the 'Elizabeth Howie Young Artist Award' - recognising an emerging artist under 25 years in a 2D medium. This award is generously sponsored by the Hughes Trust in memory of Elizabeth Howie, who was an artist and former council member of the Otago Art Society. The image of this event (and poster for this exhibition) features last years’ winner of this award - “Clown of the Mountains” by Kezia Armstrong.
There are many other awards presented in this exhibition recognising various styles and mediums. The awards all hold significant meaning as they represent generations of history of the Otago Art Society. We thank our generous sponsors; Rona Dyer, Roy Dickison, the Pledgers, Michelle Nicholls, and the Hughes Trust.
All works in this exhibition are for sale and entry is FREE! We hope you enjoy!
