14for14 was created in 2024 with the aim to get more people talking and raising awareness of food allergies. This came to light when we realised that there was a huge lack of knowledge of food allergies amongst the general public that was unintentionally putting our daughter Savannah at harm. Following on from 2024’s success of raising awareness of food allergies, we wanted to create something bigger and better for 2025 but stick with the 14for14 theme. We live in Wigan and the ‘Brick Community stadium’ is close by (Home to Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan Warriors RL)To run the full lap around the outside of the stadium is 0.36 miles. Matt’s challenge is that he will aim to run around the stadium 14 times for each of the 14 allergens in one go without stopping. Which totals 196 laps and equates to 70.56 miles (0.36 x 14 x 14 = 70.56 miles). (113.5km) The furthest that he has ever ran is 26.2 miles, so this will be a huge step up in distance and will take every bit of determination and will to get over the line. Matt is doing this for all food allergy sufferers and will push through for them.
We hope to get family and friends on board again to do their own ‘14 challenge’. Whether it be 14 laps running / walking / cycling, we will leave this up to the individual.
Matt would appreciate if as many runners as possible could jog a few laps with him to keep him focused/motivated!
This will hopefully be a family fun day and we aim to put on music and refreshments, with lots of fundraising along the way.
The UK currently recognises 14 main allergens, so that’s where the 14 originates from. Last year we went with the theme of ’14 something, for 14 consecutive days’, with every workout being shared on social media.
