This month our anniversary Handup will mark 12 years since we hit the streets with trash bags full of blankets and coats and committed to monthly handups. To date, we've done 143 (ILY) HANDUPS! We've supplied clothing, toiletries, pet supplies, hot meals, haircuts, friendly conversations, judgment free help, and compassion, often accompanied with hugs. What we've received back is more than I could have ever imagined! We get the first phone call when someone gets into housing, we get the messages from those completing time at sober living homes, we get the volunteers that show up because they're in a position now to help because We helped them first, we get the hugs from the kids that finally have a teddy bear if their own, we get the embraces and thanks from this that have an outfit for an interview, the trail wags from the pets that are warm in their new coats, we get to know that we may not be changing the world, but we're changing the world for those we encounter! Thank you to every volunteer, every person that donated their time or items, every company and individual that has sponsored our truck rental, every post share, recommendation, and kind words. We truly couldn't do any of this without our community!
This year we are in line with the Stand up for our Community event (the Monday following our event) as well as the PIT COUNT. Both of these events are true representations of the unhoused crisis and the effort our community makes to change these circumstances.
