Mental Health First Aid is a skill-based course designed to teach people how to recognise, understand and respond to a person who is experiencing a mental health problem or is in a mental health crisis - to provide initial support and guidance to the help they need.
In a MHFA course participants learn:
- how to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems
- how to feel confident to approach and assist someone who is experiencing mental health issues to get the help they need
- where and how to find professional help
- how to be supportive in a mental health crisis situation
Just as learning physical first aid helps to assist in a physical emergency having mental health first aid skills helps to assist in responding to mental health problems and crises.
