We are celebrating another Art House staff member's birthday at Art House Cinema and Pub very soon! Our manager, Seth Hirschkorn, is (sadly for us) moving on to greater heights and pursuits, and his last day with us will be February 15th, so make sure you stop in and thank him for his huge contribution to our operation! Seth is one year older this month, and his staff birthday pick is Sidney Lumet's uncontested 1957 courtroom drama masterpiece, 12 ANGRY MEN, which will be playing Thursday, February 27th! One of cinema's definitive crowning achievements, 12 ANGRY MEN has remained a narrative marvel that has strongly resonated with viewers for nearly 70 years (its ranked #2 on Letterboxd's top 250 films based on average user score! Wow!)! It's a stunning film that spills out a heavy story of society's biases and prejudices interfering with the blindness of justice, full of phenomenal performances that radiate humanity, reality, and anger!
Toward the end of a court trial, the defense and prosecution have rested their cases, and the jury is about to decide whether a young Spanish-American boy is innocent or guilty of murdering his father. Initially beginning as an open and shut case, the room soon becomes a heated arena of discussion as one juryman among the rest contests the guilty verdict. Dissolving into a philosophical war zone, the situation shifts into an examination of the jurors prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other!
