Join us as we explore how restorative justice practices can help communities transform historical harms and build more just communities.
About this Event

"Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men are victims of rape (Black et al., 2011). But all of us are impacted by sexual violence. That’s because sexual violence affects communities and society — in addition to survivors and their loved ones. Because of this, it’s on all of us to help prevent it." – National Sexual Violence Resource Center (nsvrg.org).

Michigan State University is thrilled to welcome Carrie Landrum and Kaaren Williamsen as the featured speakers for MSUs 10th RJ@MSU Symposium. Carrie Landrum and Kaaren Williamsen will introduce restorative justice, as a philosophy of harm and as a set of practices and share how restorative justice is currently used on campuses across the country to respond to sexual and gender-based misconduct. This symposium will highlight promising practices, important factors to consider in adopting a trauma-informed and restorative approach and will allow participants an opportunity to experience elements of restorative engagement.

Please join us as we gather in a common hope and desire to build stronger, healthier individuals and communities. Registered participants will leave this session with a general understanding of how Restorative Justic (RJ) and Restorative Practices (RP) can meet the needs of those who are most affected by sexual and gender-based violence.

NOTE: Following the July 8th symposium, we are offering a 2-day Advanced Restorative Justice Training (on July 9 & 10) which will REQUIRE registrants to have had some introduction to RJ prior. Attending the June 8th symposium will help to satisfy that requirement, as would participation in some other training. PLEASE NOTE THAT REGISTRATION FOR THE July 9 & 10 ADVANCED TRAINING IS SEPARATE from this symposium registration.

*The 2024 RJ@Symposium is brought to you by The Office of Student Support & Accountability, with generous support from The Division of Student Life and Engagement.
